The Geo Group Partners With Trinity Broadcasting Network To Give Second Chance To Inmates
BOCA RATON, Florida – June 24, 2009 -- The GEO Group (NYSE: GEO) (“GEO”) announced today that it has joined forces with the Trinity Broadcasting Network (“TBN”) to extend inmates housed in GEO’s facilities across the United States a real Second Chance at life. An initiative of TBN’s worldwide family of networks, Second Chance is a program that allows wardens and chaplains of eligible prisons, jails, and re-entry centers to choose up to four of TBN’s unique faith-based networks for inmates to view at their own discretion. Second Chance is a voluntary program, completely free of charge to the correctional institutions, and receives no funding from government taxpayer dollars.
GEO, a world leader in the delivery of correctional, detention, and residential treatment services to federal, state, and local government agencies around the globe, has signed an agreement to bring Second Chance into its U.S. correctional system, which currently includes the management of 47 correctional facilities and detention centers. GEO and TBN hope to reach the more than 45,000 offenders housed in GEO’s correctional facilities and detention centers geographically located in 15 states across the country.
“Our company is committed to providing meaningful offender rehabilitation programs within our correctional and detention facilities around the country,” says George C. Zoley, GEO’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “This innovative partnership with Trinity Broadcasting Network will give offenders throughout our facilities access to meaningful faith-based programming on a voluntary basis. We are looking forward to the successful implementation of this important initiative.”
“TBN is delighted to be able to provide inspirational programming to the thousands of inmates at GEO facilities across the country,” said Amy Fihn, Director of TBN Second Chance. “We are constantly receiving positive feedback from both prison officials and inmates in the dozens of facilities where Second Chance has already been implemented. It is truly a win-win program designed to promote the kind of hope and personal responsibility that can help inmates better cope behind prison walls, and more importantly, prepare them to successfully assimilate back into society once they’re released, as the majority of them will be.”
